For the records about those Mayer badges:
1.
To far what i know the L/18 Mayer mark was only found on tombak badges which we believe as early war stuff.
2.
The same L/18 mark can be found on the tombak IAB as well which shows the obverse design from "Frank & Reif".
3.
At the beginning of the war Mayer was part of a maker combine together with "Schickle" and "Förster & Barth".
so no one knows for sure:
- if Mayer produced those badges by themselve or if they acted as reseller
- if this design was used by the maker combine or any other maker
- why Mayer marked two totally different looking IAB which can be linked to the same timeline (tombak = early)
Imo the connection between L/18 and this design is still a mystery.
