    Question for PAB eagle eyes

    Hi Guys,

I already mentioned in an earlier thread that it would be nice to have a picture of every recognizable PAB (so no "Trabbi" design) in wear.

With my first picture of an L/53 I was lucky, quite easy to recognize the distinctive shape of these PAB's.

However I just received my second picture and I'm already running in to trouble to identify it beyond reasonable doubts.

At the moment I made up my mind but would appreciate your assistance to double check my own thoughts.

So please give it your best shot, which type of PAB do you think this is?

      Dear Philippe,

Hard to see grass area detail but to me it's not -
Any of the Wernstein design types
      Hermann Aurich
      Definitely not Linden FLL
      Not a "daisy" type
Any of the AS types (the 62mm tall design)

From the headlights and coax machinegun, and the "texture" of the finish, looks like a Buntmetall "Porsche" to me!

      Very good photo!

      Best regards,
      Greg

                Hi guys,

                Thanks for you thoughts.

Like Don & Frank I also believe this to be a Bronze buntmetall Wurster. IMO the shape of the rock area is the best giveaway. The curvature is unique to Wurster. Only by looking at the eagle my first thought was "Porsche" too, but a good contra indication was the left armour plate under the turret. On a Porsche the right edge of that plate is cut in a 45 degree angle, on a Wurster it has a 90 degree cut.

To me it's really fun trying to identify PAB on pictures. As long as the badge is focussed a little it's feasible IMO. So if anybody else has pics of PAB's on uniforms please post a blow up of them in this thread and lets see how many different types we can identify.

Here is the complete picture. Can anybody identify the unit this guy served in.

I really should invest in a good book on German uniforms. Am I correct in believing that this isn't a panzer uniform which would explain why this guy is wearing a Bronze PAB?

                      Hi Den,

                          Hi Den

Based upon the eagle with pointed beak, the big gap between the left track and fender, the fairly small driving lights, the high domed cupola and the rock area expanding to the left in a massive upwards line my best guess would be A.S. or AS in triangle. Impossible to distinguish between those two without seeing the grass blade pattern.

Thanks for posting the pic, lets hope we see some more

Looks like a Bronze grade to me, an the uniform, at least for my untrained eyes, comes close to the one my recipient is wearing.
