    CCC in Gold

I came across this Nahkampfspange in Gold. Very desirable, but also risky business.

It looks like it has some identical characteristics (plate/catch/hinge) with the CCC pictured in Niemanns Reference guide.

What do you think of it based on this pictures?

Straight on shots in natural light would help.

As Don said, we are going to need some really perfect photography to analize this badge. The difference between a real Presentation Nahkampfspange and a high end fake is difficult to spot. We will want close ups of everything, too! Hinge, catch, rivet, obverse eagle, etc.

      Regards,
      Mark

Extremly good fakes of this type exist, so we need much better pictures.

I hope you can make something out of this one??

It sure looks promissing, but better pictures are needed.
I have seen REALLY good fakes of this clasp!

I'm a zero expert on these, but it looks like the leaves are frosted, is that correct?
I have an example, but it's waaaaay from even 5% finish left!
                  regards

                    Thanks for some comments.

Today I got 2 new pictures....Still no good and sharp ones from the front of the Clasp and some details...

I hope some good characteristics can be seen from this angle...So, I can decide if its worth for buying or not..

after 60 OD years the gold would be faded this has bean refinished that's for sure. just my 2 cents

it doesn't look like a zinc badge, but its hinge and catch are for zinker. I feel kind of strange.....

There are some subtle differences to the known original pictured in Michaelis's book, like the shape of the pin and the setting around the hinge and catch . But I wouldn't worry about the colour, I've got a Tombac GWB which has a similar finish, and these Gold CCC's were special presentation items, so would tend to be kept safe rather than worn . Depending on the price, I think I'd probably take the risk, (but only after seeking the advice of the experts)
                          Cheers,

                          Neil

Jimmy, these style CCC's were not made in zinc; so it's not surprising that they've held up well like gilt on the minty Schwerin U boats, or GWL P/O badges.

Presentation Nahkampfspangen were ONLY made in Tombak. They WERE frosted and HAD polished highlights. This piece has a very good chance of being authentic. For me, the details of the hinge, pin, and catch are critical.

An old Militaria Magazine (issue #100) had a great article on this Badge. Three variations exist. Based on the Obverse Die, and the type of catch, I would say this piece is the number two style.

I will need to compare these images with a known example, of which I happen to have one, before making a final decision.

                              Regards,
                              Mark
