        Dear Ludwig,

Looking to the dimensions of the tank IMHO it is not original.

        Best regards,

        Rene

I go by a very strict rule with these and this one would not be for my collection. I know of one type that is guaranteed original and this one does not conform, simply because of the tank and its size. Agreed, there MIGHT be more original designs than just one, but anything with a tank sized like that makes me nervous.
          Cheers, Frank

I donĀ“t want to make you nervous, so until I have got 100% or these are not for sale anymore. Thanks!

                Tdb

I PM'd the seller about his TDBs. He asked that I post my comments here.

At the SOS last week, I sold 2 Silver TDBs, clearly marked as repros, $35 each. Both were exactly like the ones in these threads. I got them almost 30 years ago when little was known about these fakes. Mine had aged a bit. I call these the "Austrian" fakes due to their country of origin. They feature nonferrous (magnet is NOT attracted to them) metal tanks, incorrect black borders and incorrect proportions of tank to borders.

Also last week at the SOS, I examined a Silver TDB which had obviously come off a tunic, was naturally aged and exhibited everything one wants to see EXCEPT the tank was not magnetic. Possibly real? Yes, possible. I can imagine the producer running out of the metal strip he was using for stamping out the tanks and substituting some copper alloy strip he had on hand. BUT, since it fails to meet one of the accepted criterion for these, you would be wise not to pay full market price as reselling it would be a problem in most cases. Such is our hobby.

                  Hello,

non magnetic originals exist! I sold one a few weeks back on the estand and still have one in my collection!
Most of them have the grey (not fieldgray/-green) backing.
