    Thanks for the nice remarks.

It is great when, what I believe to be a difficult one to find, just pops up out of the blue.

    Hey it's snowing here

    cheers

Like Phil says, these really are evidence that the hollow zincers were the last in the evolution of badge production. There seem to be a lot of the standard hook zincer around but these with the riveted hook hardly turn up at all.
Thats the first bronze one I******180;ve seen.

Have you got the whole FLL series together yet Graeme?

        Hi Skip

No not quite yet...there is a hell of a lot of hinge/catch/swas variations as you are aware of.
I must be close on the bronze side but fall short on the silver.

So if you come across any silver variants with the raised maker mark or early buntmetal hollows (If they did them) please put them by for me, if you do not want them for your collection

I have a pair of L/61 also if that counts

When I get time I will scan them together and you can tell me which ones I am misssing....

        cheers
        Graeme

Well Graeme, that pair is outstanding . It is a variant that eludes me in either grade. I must say the more of these badges I aquire the more the evolution of these IAB's baffles me. I have five in all and only two have the same set-up....it's a crazy world. I think by the time I find every variant I will be a very old man and broke .

Here is one that arrived today...showing that trademark sloppy soldering for this set-up. But the finish...which is not done justice by this scan....is really nice so it's an upgrade.

Here is my small hollowback family......sadly waiting for even one bronze brother . I often..I know I should get a life...sit and stare at them wondering why the heck they used a block hinge and so often...because these really are not that rare. All I could think was..well these very well may be very late war and you take what you can get......after reading the thread on the 50000 wound badge order to CW, I realized more then likely supply lines were demolished....suppliers were bombed out and you grab what you can and make it happen. What do you all think? Still doesn't explain the solid back variants or what the heck that recessed hinge is doing on hollowbacks...but like Philippe said..these are thought provoking badges .

Reverse...showing the block hinge examples and the haphazard way these appear to have been soldered.....

And here is one that is absolutely horrible shape...forgive me it was one of my firsts from a flea market and to this day I love it for some strange reason. Entire hardware set up is replaced but it shows that it was a recessed hinge and question mark catch. Stamped maker mark in the middle of the rifle.

Last but not least my only bronze baby...this one has the raised logo placed under the hinge and the same set-up I believe was originally on the previous badge.

@ Graeme hope you don't mind me expanding on your thread mate, but it seems we have a sickness in common...although you seem to be making out a bit better on your end .

Greg - I have absolutely no problem with you adding to this thread. It is always great to see other badges and I must say your new aquisition is very nice

I also think your bronze is superb...

Imaginations can always run wild when collectors try to piece together what was going on in the later stages of the war, but for sure material resources were definitely becoming scarce and that is probably the main reason for the evolution of many badges.

A couple more variants and you will have the set

                          cheers

                            Graeme:

Sorry for the late kudos.....still playing catchup from the SOS....but what a great pair of IABs. This is the first time I had seen this setup combination on their hollow issues.

Your badges, along with the nice examples Greg posted, really do illustrate the variety of setups used late in the war.

                            Congratulations

                            Dennis
