Just been on the telefone to Hr. Schnabel Jnr.
There logo was earlier a birds beak (Schnabel) with the letters AS underneath. 20 years ago they changed the logo to a circle containing the letters SCH.

Main production is pewter. Mainly decorative and toys.
Looks like this is not our AS.

Still trying to find a number for Stuttgart.

Back to the badges- Do we have any other badges made with this hinge/catch assembly that we cannot identify as a Gablonz company besides KM (triangle) and AS (triangle)? I'm sure when we figure these two out it will all become clear to us.

            Guys,
There is one more option. We can order in the local newspaper an ad with AS in triangle logo picture and question: Do you recognize this trade mark? If yes please cal XXX-XXX-XXXX. Cost probably will be around $20 (i can pay for it). Any other ideas?

I found this site that has a data base of German trade marks since 1894:
              http://stneasy.fiz-karlsruhe.de/html...sh/login1.html

I just have to mess with it a little.

                Don,
These guys are charging some money for the each search. And i'm not sure if they can find old trade marks...Still i think so that we will do better with the newspaper ad...

                      Guys,

could be onto something here. Just talked to the secretary at Alfred Scholze GmbH. Even with my story about researching metal companys in the New Gablonz area they were not very helpful.
I asked about the AS and MK in triangle marks, at first the secretary said that such marks were used "much earlier". She then connected me with the press speaker who was not nearly as helpful as the secretary and was the opinion that an AS in triangle mark had never been used on their products.
A cover up, or the secretary mistaken?
Hard to say, I think they remain a possibility but it will be hard to get the info out of them.

                          Hi Skip,

A bit of a strange story indeed and it might well have been a deny reaction from the press speaker. Since the secretary tought these were earlier mm it's maybe worthwhile to continue with her. Use your natural charmes man. Tell her the press speakers doesn't recall such mm's but since she does you would like to send her a fax with the marks just to see if these possibly are the mm's she thinks she knew. Hang in there Skip I'm under te impression that you are getting closer

I wonder why we don't see IABs from RK with the ball hinge? Could it be that they were using them all on the GABs? The other style hinge (block) that you see on the IAB has a simular crimp as the ball hinge.

My other thought is, What if the maker MK was related to RK some how, ie son, brother etc.....?

                              Phil,

unfortunatly it would appear that the press guy talked to her straight away. I was put on wait and when she came back online she said she had probably been mistaken.
Hard to know but its a strong possibility that it was them.
Any other ideas about how to get it out of them

Good point Don and you could also ask the question why we don't see RK PAB's with the typical bock hinge found on the IAB and GAB.

In relation to your seconde question it's my believe that M.K. just is the shortest abbreviation their is for Arbeits Gemeinschaft für Metall und Kunstoff "AG Muk".

Apart from AG Muk and MK we also known MuK with or without a number and M. Kunsttoff (cfr. Luft clasps).
