Yes, I was kindly updated by Robert and Skip. Problem is: this ad needs to have pics. Private ads in Germany in majow newspapers = all without pic. As soon as you have pics it will be a commercial ad, which goes into the thousands in a newspaper as the Süddeutsche Zeitung. I will think about this once I have my head set to the PAB book.

A.S. doesn’t worry me at all, i know it is Adolf Scholze made badge, however i can offer PAB kingdom for the true lead to the AS in triangle maker...

Good point. As I am working very hard right now on luft Flak badges I have come across some that just make me wonder what is going on. It is a two-piece, so I should not be surprised to see eagles mated with different wreaths, but it still wierds me out!

I wanted to bring this BTT and expand this holistic regional production concept to other areas besides Gablonz. I would like to see a thread on Ludenscheid for example with badges from all the makers there including Heer, Kriegsmarine, Luft and anything else you deem relevent. The idea is to identify where manufacturers collaberated in design, production, assembly etc.... If you take the time to review this thread I think it had a lot of promise but was too narrow in scope.

I read through this thread a while back and thought I'd see what I could do to help. I'm stationed in Prague, which is about an hour and a half drive from Gablonz a.d. Neisse (today it is called Jablonec nad Nisou). Just FYI, Gruenwald a.d. Neisse is now a section of Gablonz.
Today I visited a muzeum library in Gablonz and looked at some address books. Unfortunately I didn't have much time to get into the local newspapers and magazines, but I'll try again later. I was able to find every lieferant numbered maker listed in Gablonz except AGMuK. I was hoping to find a list of the member firms for this association but no luck. The librarian was going to talk to someone she knew and see if they could help.
There were a lot of other jewelry makers listed as well, but I only found one with the initials AS. That was Artur Schnabel, who was listed as a producer of Bijouterierzeugung with a specialty in Sportabzeichen. My friend that lives near Gablonz said it was a small firm and probably not a candidate to be AS in a triangle.
By the way, does anyone know what Guertler means (excuse me if it's misspelled)? My German is very limited, but a lot of makers were listed as being Guertlers.
Anyway, I hope to go back and see what else they have, then sometime later visit the regional state archive office in Gablonz and see what they have. I hope I can find a list of maker marks or, even better, some of the companies' records. I also hope that some of the local newspapers will have some articles about the firms.
Between family, work and this hobby (or addiction), I don't have a lot of time to devote to this effort or reply to posts on the forum, so bear with me as this will take time. None of the records are in electronic form so I have to search all of the literature the old fashioned way.
If anyone wants to come visit Gablonz, I'd be glad to assist as much as I can. You'll need to have a basic knowledge of German to look through the literature. Don't worry about the Czech; I speak it well enough to get you to where you need to be. Also, quite a few of the Czechs there have at least a basic knowledge of German as a lot of German tourists come there.
Just as a side note, when I first started coming to the Gablonz area in the early 90s, I remember occasionally seeing dies for various medals and badges (I recall only a Krim shield die, a KVK w/ swords one, and one for a GAB). I remember being told that these came from the JFS firm. Hope that doesn't scare you too much, but I have to say that most of the copies I've seen here wouldn't fool most knowledgeable collectors.
I hope to visit the muzeum again in about two weeks and will let you know what I find out. I only have about 6 more months here in Prague so I'll do the best I can. I'll also see if any of my Czech collecting friends can give me a hand.

Very interesting. Please keep us informed as you find things out. Perhaps they have a flea market you can visit. Also interesting about the dies. Given that they were probably left in place when the german volk were forced out one can only wonder where they are now and what is being done with them.

Perhaps you can find old sales adds or phone books from the war era. The answer is out there somewhere.
Another option would be to locate someone that worked there in the badge industry and show him some examples. I bet he/she would recognize all the local makers' items.pseudo-expertComment

As to flea markets, there's quite a few, but I rarely find badges here. Even in the early 90s they weren't easy to find. Lots of field gear, but even that's getting harder to find and the prices are ridiculous - partly due to the weak dollar and partly due to the increasing popularity of collecting for the Czechs themselves. Except for a few exceptions, it's actually cheaper to buy TR items in Germany now than in the Czech Republic. And that's saying a lot after the coming of the euro in Germany in 2002 doubled the prices of TR collectibles almost overnight.
