Please assist in ID on a ribbon bar

    Dear Forum Members,

I would greatly appreciate your help with a ribbon on a bar. This is a 5 place ribbon bar that I recently acquired. What is the first ribbon on the right side of the bar, the one with a crown on it? It seems oddly faded, almost as if the field was pink or red. I cannot imagine this being a WWI ribbon, since there is no indication on the bar of WWI service. The ribbon almost appear to be the Anschluss Medal with some sort of a crown cypher, something I have never seen before. Any and all help and assistance would be much appreciated.

    Many Thanks,
    Dave.

It is a Bulgarian Bravery Order of some kind …

        Cheers, Ian.

Thanks Ian, trying to find what Bulgarian decoration/ribbon with crown cypher, with absolutely no luck, perhaps another axis country?

The ribbon is certainly for the Bulgarian Bravery Medal/Cross, or the Military Merit Medal/Order on Bravery ribbon.

It is hard to determine what the crown means here but one theory is it represents the Military Merit Order. This Order usually have a specific crown and swords device attached, but perhaps this is all that was available. The other thing is, the Germans were forever adding superfluous devices to some ribbons, unnecessarily.

Then again, this ribbon has thin stripes, which I have seen used to mount the Merit Medal (see here: https://gmic.co.uk/topic/2700-medal-...lgarian-medal/). The fact that there is no swords device on the ribbon could be proof that the ribbon represents the medal (as it had no swords), could be a step to proving this theory. The crown would simply represent that the medal is from a sovereign country.

It is hard to say what the case is as this is all supposition on my part, but the bar itself looks good.

            Kind regards,
            Pierce

Thank you very much Pierce! I looked up the Bulgarian decorations you had mentioned and not a single one has a ribbon that would even remotely resemble the type which I have on my ribbon bar. Am I missing something? Your opinion is much appreciated!

You are welcome. Honestly, I think you are missing something. I googled "Bulgarian Bravery Medal" and see several examples of this ribbon, more so on the NCO Cross and Medal rather than the Order. I cannot post photos here unfortunately.

                Kind regards,
                Pierce

Here is another example of the ribbon with thinner metallic stripe (like your example) for the Bulgarian Medal.

Thanks again Pierce, but the ribbon in the medal you reference is pale blue, as opposed to mine which is red/pink on overall white, similar to the Anschluss Medal, I really must be missing something....

                      Hi there,

Sorry, I’m seeing the Bulgarian Bravery ribbon too - pale blue with the thin back stripes. It’s dirty which is causing it to have somewhat of a pinkish hue in parts in these photos,0 I suppose. But it’s the Bulgarian decoration to my eyes.

Here's a photo of the ribbon bar I have and the awards to match ..

                        Hope this helps.

                        Cheers, Ian.

Many Thanks to ALL for their valued input, extremely appreciated! Perhaps the ribbon was originally pale blue and is now dirty. However, that is the strangest way dirt or whatever it is, has taken shape on the ribbon material. Almost like it was colored in a weird way.

Possibly rust on the metal tab and has stained the ribbon- just a thought.

                              Kind regards,
