    Medal Bars from SOS

    Hi guys,

I had a good time at the SOS this year. I ended up buying two medal bars while at the show.

The first one is this nice, six-place police bar. I actually owned this exact medal bar once before. I first acquired it at the 2014 SOS, but I ended up selling it to a private collector about a month later. I was surprised to see it on a dealer's table at the SOS this weekend. I recognized it immediately and bought it for a second time without any hesitation. This time I think I will keep it in my collection for a good long time. It only took five years for this bar to come full circle and now it is back home.

    Best regards,
    Tom

This five-place police bar was my other medal bar purchase at this year's SOS. I like this one because it lacks the typical 1914 EK2 and instead starts with a Saxe-Meiningen Medal for Merit in War on a non-combatant ribbon. I wish the bar didn't have the rust staining on some of the ribbons, but overall it is still a pretty nice looking bar. Notice the extreme color-loss to the blue ribbon of the Prussian 15-Year Long Service Cross. The front of the ribbon is totally bleached out while the reverse (protected from light exposure) has retained its blue coloration.

                  Very nice Tom!

I don’t collect medal bars or Imperial German items but found myself buying a small bar at the end of the show as the dealer wanted it gone. If it is ok I will show it here.

Wonderful finds as usual. I really like the 5-place.

                        Dear Tom,

Thanks for sharing your wonderful pick ups, as always. You never fail to come away from these shows with a solid bar or two for the collection.

The fact that the one has come full circle after all these years - and from a show like this as opposed to from whom you had sold it to - is amazing.

Nice schnallen, in particular the NK Meiningen one is quite unusual.

                            Nice

                            Nice pick-ups Tom!

Interesting to see the color loss on particular ribbons. Noticed this on some bars where the reds retain their bright color while greens/blues almost become white. Those later deep blue service ribbons always seem to retain that shade though.

Great to see! Glad to see that one make it back "home".

                            All the best,

                            James
