I picked this up recently but I am not sure if it is German, it looks to me like a WW1 medal but it is marked 1941/42. Does anyone know what it could be please?

As Casper has indicated the Hungarian Fire Cross
Instituted on November 24, 1941 for merit in the defense of the nation which could include being wounded.
It is in three types:
a) For combatants
b) For non-combatants
c) For those mobilized for home defense
The ribbon is the same for all three grades.
For the wounded, a metal bar was worn on the ribbon.
Here is the combatants version with swords...
