    West Wall medals.

Have just spent an interesting amount of time reading the various posts on this medal. Could I have some opinions on theses 2 medals and their ribbons. I bought these when I was new to collecting and believed that all dealers were honest people, as it turned out to my cost that they were'nt! The packet has the suspect spelling with the 3 Ns and I'm thinking that the no 1 medel ribbon is fake and the medal with the darker shade I think is the one that came with the packet. Thanking you in advance. David.

        Hi David,

I agree with your assessment as well as the opinions of James and Ian. Both medals appear to be originals, but the ribbon on the zinc medal is for sure a fake. The ribbon on the Buntmetall Westwall Medal looks fine. As far as the Carl Poellath packet is concerned, I never particularly cared for these packets whether Schrobenhausen was spelled correctly or not. The paper never seemed quite right to me when compared to known original packets. However Marcus Hatton had the paper analyzed on some of these Schrobenhausen/Schrobenhansen packets and the paper was apparently deemed to be of the period. Since that time I believe the consensus of opinion is that these packets are original. The misspelled city name of Schrobenhansen may have been nothing more than an error in the type-setting.

        Best regards,
        Tom

          Opinions.

Thanks to those who gave their much valued opinions, glad to know that at least the medals are correct, I can at least put them up for sale on the E.Stand some time with a clear conscious. Regards David.
