Medal Bar from SOS

Hi guys,

Just back from the recent SOS. Not much to choose from in medal bars, but I did happen to bring home this six-placer. Very nice assembly job on this one and I really like the subtle ageing to the ribbons and medals. Some medal bars just call out to me, "look at me- I'm real beyond any doubt." And this one, IMO, is an example of that.

Could I ask what the second along is please ? (after the EKII). Would this date to post March '38 given the Honour Cross and the Austrian combination ?

Hi Ian,

Thank you for your response. The second medal is the Saxe-Weimar Merit Medal in Bronze, awarded by the Saxon Duchy of Weimar for military merit in WW1.

IMO the bar was most likely assembled in 1934-1935, probably immediately after the awarding of the Hindenburg Cross with swords. On this particular medal bar, the order of precedence is correct for pre-Anschluß and it is also correct for a post-Anschluß.

I don't think you missed much as far as medal bars went. There were only a few others that I had interest in, but they were either way too expensive or not for sale.
