    Social Welfare Medal

    Hi guys,

What are your thoughts on this Social Welfare medal I just received. Its pretty light weight and looks to be cast rather than die struck to me judging from the porous high points of the surface both back and front.

    Thanks gents.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

Closeup of the obverse showcasing the pitted obverse. However, no casting seam on the rim that I can find.

    Thanks

Hi, I think it's a good one. Just badly stored and a bit corroded on the high points as a result.

It looks like oxidation on the medal????? I'm under the impression that they were made from tombak or zinc. Plus the V shaped decoration on the top of the wreath isn't defined well enough for me which causes concern. I would pass.

            Hi guys,

Thanks for the comments. I suppose it could be oxidation causing these little cavities on the edges of the high points, that would certainly explain why there is no silver finish on these areas. But if that is the case, then this metal has certainly been scrubbed clean at some point and would explain why the tombak/brass base metal looks so shiny underneath.

Either its a cast fake or an original that has been oxidized then cleaned; in either case I think I will pass on it.

            Thanks guys.
