Foerster & Barth Pforzheim Luftschutz Medal

    Hello,
I picked this up about 15 years ago in a grouping from the veteran's daughter. I know these aren't much appreciated, but they are truly striking medals. It is marked 10 on the ring, though I forgot to photograph that. Unfortunately it has the wrong ribbon, but that's the way it was when I got it. I've been told the Spanish volunteer ribbon is harder to find than the LS medal.

    Hi Dale,

The Luftschutz Medal is very nice. And that ribbon looks like original, German-made ribbon for the Spanish Blue Division Medal. As you say, original ribbon for the Spanish Blue Division Medal is hard to come by. A very nice mismatch!

    Best regards,
    Tom

      Hi,

      Quick questions......

Is there a pin at the top of the ribbon?

Do you have an image of the entire medal/ribbon?

      Best,

      Jeff

        Jeff,
No pin on the top of the ribbon. I don't have a picture of the ribbon itself, but will try tomorrow to get one for you. In the meantime, here's a photo of the entire group.

          Dale,

Thanks for posting and the group is definitely diverse. I wonder if it was realized that the Luftshutz was fitted with the incorrect ribbon by the vet?

          Best,

          Jeff

You've enough ribbon there to cut it in half and sell me a nice piece

The runic tabs are nice originals but the skull tab is a fake I'm afraid.

            Cheers, Ian.

              Jeff,
Here are pictures of the ribbon. The daughter had no direct info on the items, other than thinking her father had been at the liberation of the Buchenwald or Langenstein camps.

              Ian,
I'll be posting the SS items in that forum a later today. I took the skull to the SoS a couple of years ago and showed it to a few insignia guys. All said they had never seen anything like it, but they thought it was period done, perhaps a training piece by a new worker or something.

Hi Dale, these skull tabs were hand-embroidered over a card template aka 'unterlagen' ... the example you show doesn't match the standard unterlagen BUT I guess you should never say 'never'.

                    Cheers, Ian.
