    Westwall Award Ribbons

Seeking opinions here, please, as to the period authenticity of the two award ribbons in question. Neither "glows" under black light. Note the loops on both examples. I believe both to be originals, but look forward to all feedback.

    Thanks,

    John

Both original. The first ribbon is earlier, the other for lat war issues.

The yellow ribbon is possibly for the Lifesaving medal...it is by no means uncommon to find the Lifesaving ribbon attached to a Westwall, even though regulations stated that it was to be Brown with white stripes.
Below are period colour pictures of these two ribbons for comparison...

This would have had me fooled.

Both are good ribbons John. There are some variations of colors, some were not as brown as they should be, some faded... It happened the same for other medals and crosses.
IMO it is more common to find a West Wall ribbon on a Lifesaving medal rather than the opposite.
There are some ribbons of the Lifesaving medals that have a dark yellow (near brown) color, but the most part is recognizable by its light yellow color.
I post some examples. Surely you can find, as I stated before, some different tonalities.

...and to add further to the confusion, the regulations for the Lifesaving medal actually state that the ribbon should be "Orange".

I have a litte rule about these ribbons. I dont know if it is 100% true but it works for me.
If the loops are white then its a life saving ribbon and if the loops are orange/brown its a west wall ribbon.

Here is a ribbon I have. Even if it looks like a life saving ribbon it is a west wall ribbon.

                      Hi John

Here is one of mine that looks fairly close to your darker ribbon
