    Unusual Metal Bar

I just acquired a most unusual metal bar or the first like it I have seen.

    Hello Mr Stump

On the reverse is there hooks so that the medals can easily be removed, leaving the owner with a larger ribbon bar.

      MEDAL BAR

Correct, but I have never ran across a German one like this and I didn't see one covered by Rick in his article.

I've seen the hooks on imperial bars, but never on Third Reich medal bars.

WHERE ARE THE MEDALS BAR AUTHORITIES?

I have never seen a Third Reich medal bar like this either. I think we need some "expert" advise or at least experienced advise on this item.

In the "Related" section of the Ribbon Bar Article I've got a couple of these "convertible" styles. They were very popular in 1940, which is almost the latest they were used. George Stimson's Sudeten Medal in that section is the normal type. Usually multiple award bars of that period and style are on the detachable tab back mountings.

This particular one is much "shorter" than usual-- a fairly common Bavarian Imperial period style-- rather ugly, yes? A bar like this could well have been made by the wearer himself, rather than being a commercially produced standardized type.

This one also qualifies as a Medal Bar, not a Ribbon Bar....

Oh Gawd, don't get me started on ANOTHER topic until Seba's typing fingernails grow back!

Here's another detachable Sudentland medal (besides the one in Rick's article):
