Army LS medals - are these good?

    Hi Guys,

I have these 12 and 25 year Army long service medals. Both are non-magnetic which I suspect is a bad sign. The 12 year has the ribbon eagle's head cut off and a flaw on the obverse near the rim at the 7 o'clock position, otherwise detail is very good. If genuine, I wonder if this is from a sample board, put together with pieces lying around the factory, maybe this would explain the use of flawed items. I would be very grateful for views on authenticity of both medals.

Many thanks for looking and for all comments.

    Best regards,

    Guy

Is there a makers mark on the ring of the 25yr cross?

These medals came magnetic and non magnetic.

You can get a mix of magnetic eagles with non magnetic medals or crosses and vice versa. So it doesn't mean the medal is bad.

Same holds true for medal bars. One medal or cross might be magnetic the other non magnetic.

I think the 12year is good even with the flaw as I believe I have this type on a bar somewhere.

The 25 year I would like to see the inner arms of this cross before making a definite judgement.

Finish on the 25 year is not what I would expect to see on a non magnetic cross.

This might be due to old age or bad storage.

        My 2 cents.

Both are bad IMO. The ribbons are postwar, gilding of eagles and medals looks strange. Quality sucks on both, look at the uneven rims on the 12 year DA. I could accept gold coloured buntmetal/messing, but I have never seen white unmagnetic basemetal on DA's. If they used nickelsilver in the production I would expect better quality gilding.

Both copies, IMO. The "finish" says it all...

            Kind regards, Peter

Thanks for the comments, Guys, I really appreciate them. There are no makers marks on the rings, but are some what-look-like cut marks. Looking at them, I am inclined to agree - the finish is not what one would expect, but just wanted to be sure.
