    EK2 4er Bar.

    Hi All,,

Just Got this one in on a a trade from a Friend and trusted WAF member.

I like it BUT im fussy and the missing Lufty eagle device is bothering me,What do you guys think am i being too picky? Guess they went through a War

Also i know this type of backplate makes it easier to mess with the Medals/Ribbons as someone wouldnt need to use sewing skills but do you specialists (Tom,Pierce, just for this question) believe it to be all original to the bar? The EK2 is an unmarked Souval btw...

    Kind Regards,

    Ross

Why does the missing eagle bother you?
The best would of course be if the eagle was still there but the ghosting shows that it use to have an eagle there for a long time. I prefer this over a plain fresh-looking eagle-free ribbon any day...

I totally agree with you Peter its better to have the shadow than not,Guess i just like things complete? I knew it didnt have the device obviously when i got it but now im in two minds?? Will probably move it on to a collector who is not such a fusspot
I must say though that all 4 medals/ribbons are nice with even patina

          Hello Ross,

Looks like a nice, honest medal bar that has been together for a long time. The aging looks consistent to all of the ribbons and medals. I see no reason to doubt this as a legitimate assembly of the Third Empire. I would say that the bar has been fiddled with a bit, but nothing real serious. Looks as if someone was curious about a possible maker mark on the EK2 and, while seeking that out, the tightness of the Ek2 ribbon wrap was compromised. The circled area shows a clean and bright part of an otherwise faded ribbon, so you can see that the wrap was originally a bit tighter. There is also a bit of abrasion to some of the tabs on the reverse, but not enough to concern me about the authenticity.

Overall, I like this bar. With a little TLC, the EK2 ribbon could be made taut again and replacing the Luft 4-Year eagle device would make this bar complete once more. A bar very worthy of restoration but fine, too, just as it is now.

          Best regards,
          Tom
