Hi Guys

I suspect this medal does not belong here but I don't know where else to post it. As far as I understand it, this medal was awarded to people who did not work for the rescue services but who had saved a life. This could include those in the armed forces and it is not a common award. Does anyone else here know more? The award was made to a man flying with 5./Aufkl.Gruppe 122 - hence the Luftwaffe link. Thanks for your help.

Here is a copy of an award certificate - I don't have an original. As it was apparently signed by Hitler this was presumably a pretty prestigious award!

Maybe ask a moderator to move it to the General Awards Forum. I have seen these posted there before.

You are correct, not a common medal at all so it is always good to see one especially with an award certificate (even though it is a copy).

I found the criteria in the book: Medals and decorations of the Third Reich.

Is the rim marked with 835PR.M.BLN?
If so... 835 is the silvercontent and PR.M.BLN. stands for Prussian state mint in Berlin.

There are no maker marks on either the medal or the ribbon loop. From the limited amount of information I could find for this medal, I thought the Third Reich version was unmarked. I think it might be neusilber (nickel alloy) rather than real silver.

From what I have read (probably here on WAF) the pre-war silver were marked on the rim and the non-silver war time was not.

Dont take this as a fact since Im just telling what I have read. But it sounds plausible.
