Here's my first Police Medal Bar. What is the plating on the Police Cross and why do you see so many 25 year crosses on medal bars instead of the lesser year medals? Regards Chris

Hello Chris,

Very nice medal bar, and even extra nice with the matching Feldspange. The crosses were tombak, with I think a fire-gilted finish. These WWI Veterans were oldtime Policemen by the late thirties, when these awards were instituted.
Some may have only qualified for the 18 year cross initially, but then qualified for the 25 year a few years later. The police rookies went into the Wehrmacht most likely.
