West Wall medal with Eagle device

    http://hampshiremedals.com/home.php

I purchased item 50036 West Wall medal from the above dealer and it arrived today. It has a small NSDAP eagle on the ribbon, and I was wondering if anyone has seen this type of device before. The citation is to a RAD man.

I have tried to look at the back of the eagle to see how it is fixed to the ribbon, but it cannot be moved enough to see the back and I don't want to force it. I think it may have 2 small prongs or pins.

Yes, it is a political eagle indeed. I havenĀ“t seen this "improvement" before, but it could be period made. However against all regulations.

Is the ribbon also bleached/faded behind the eagle?

The ribbon is not so faded under the eagle in so far as I can see it. The area behind the wreath will lift slightly, but it is firmly attatched behind the wings and won't move easily. I thought at first it might be a stickpin, but it isn't. The eagle moves a little side to side, but not up or down.

A photo of what we are discussing is always good.

This device has been unofficially added imo, but when added we could never say.

          Kind regards

Thanks Pierce. Can anyone I.D. that eagle? Is it a known party pin of some kind or just something unofficial?

I would say it belongs on a visor. It is too big to be a medal bar eagle.

              Kind regards

Too small to be a visor eagle. Is it a prongback ? They made all sizes of eagles for many purposes, I wouldn't think it was added post war. Could a party official have gotten the award?

Well, if the award and the citation have always been together it was awarded to Arbeitsmann Hans Stolz RAD Abteilung 2/253 S VII Erlenbach B bei Bergzabern/Pfalz.
