        Hi,

That looks like an original of the unknown maker.
        Best, Chris

This is certainly better than the previous one. But, I think this is a high-end repro.

          1) The color is wrong. It is supposed to be chocolate brown.
          2) The wreath is too defined on this one as well.
          3) I don't like the flared bottoms of the runes on the front.
          4) The stipling inside the swastika arms on real ones is noticeably more subtle than the rest of the medal
          5) The oak leaves are too rounded.

            Curt,
I believe that all of those characteristics are proper for this maker.
I used to think these medals were fake too, but apparently they are real.
They are often much darker than the Deschlers and have the flared tips on the runes. The oak leaves are more rounded, as you stated, but Steve Kahn said that these are real, and I have examined one of these in the flesh, and they appear very nice. The pebbling is proper and very close to the Deschlers pebbling. I don't think these are the "P & L" medals, but no one has ever posted a P & L version on the forums so I don't have the slightest clue as to what a P& L version looks like. The P & L medals have a taller, slimmer beveled ring, (as does this one), whereas the Deschlers have a shorter, fatter beveled ring.
Chris, are there any small numbers or markings stamped anywhere on the teardrop ring? Best, Chris

Also, I don't think the Deschler 8-year service medals ever had any markings on the teardrop ring, but I'm not sure about the other makers. Best, Chris

there are no mm that i can find. the medal looks like painted black but where worn shows a bronze colour
