    This one is a fake.

Search the forum for memels and you'll see that it is a copy.

no, what I found is a bunch of threads with members saying the medals are copies but with no real explanation behind it. In your previous post- one of the reasons is "open 9's". Why is that an indication of a copy?
If you base your opinion on the fact that this one is a copy because it also has say- open 9's then I want to know where that "all open 9's are copies" came from. Aside from that- (different fonts of this or that) is there any indication of the medals being a fake? They are die-struck not cast ( a positive in my opinion) , have closed rings, no signs of being "home-made" some come from vets so what are you basing your "its a fake!" opinion on? (Along with another member who knows those medals better than you)
Is there only one accepted version, the rest are copies? Sure that would eliminate quite a few awards from our collections and deem them fake.
If you had a chance to study them in dept ( I haven't) Im sure you gathered some facts about them. I searched this forum and haven't found much.
Interesting subject and much under-researched IMO.
    cheers

      Agreed.

If this type is proven one day to be good I'll be the first to admit I was wrong.

Recently on the GCA forum there was a memel that was considered to be a fake poven to be authentic.

      Maker was Schikel(sp.).

More study is needed on the subject.

Take only one type as good means that there was only one producer of this medal. And we all know this is wrong.

          My books:

          - THE WEHRPAß & SOLDBUCH OF THE WH
          - THE SS TK RING
          - THE ITALIAN-GERMAN MEDAL
          - THE ANTI PARTISAN BADGE
          - THE AWARDS OF THE LW

          and more!

Wayne, this thread cannot help. There are 6 or more types of originals Memel, and the guy called "Afrika" seems don't know this; he talk in fact about only 2 types of originals. Don't waste your time reading this thread.

onhalli.. it´s fake, so called "mask fake"

Stick to the topic. It´s better to ask an option on another medal in new thread please.

With period illustrations of six different variants of the Memel Medal, I would believe it is time to rethink some of the judgements on authenticity of many of these medals.
