          Hi Claudio,

You are a ribbon bar freak too?

the metal bars are 3rd reich ones. typical the stamped out holes, the hook and the holder for the needle.

About the RAD devices Rick is the right one to tell more. In my opinion it is suspicious. The police eagle is a fake. It should be stamped out like this one below.

          Best regards
          Daniel

ribbon freak / other devices, part Germans, part international

            Daniel,

I can be considered a kind of ribbon's freak as well. Maybe my brother would fit more in this description. He is the one who intensively collects all kind of ribbon bar devices.

Here some scans from his collection.

            Ciao,

            Claudio

              ribbon devices... some more!

              Hi everyone!

I don't think that all of them are originals, especially the SS-devices and the NSDAP DA-party devices...

              Ciao,

              Claudio

The SS runes are definitely fakes: note the flat tops and bottoms-- an "early" 1980s/90s mistake that led to most later being hand filed--which of course cuts across the diagonal lines of the "thread" lines. I show an original SS runes device in the Association Members Only Forum (try search for "runes") as a teaser for my article.

Your Polizei eagle is OK--it is just a variant or one that wasn't stamped out--I show one on a ribbon bar in my article that poor Seba is getting ready for the site.

I have never seen a silver 1940 RAD device--but that one looks OK from the front. The other one is a strange gold color and the shovel and swastika look distorted. I'm not sure about the dark colored Luftwaffe eagle--if it is COPPER, it is bad. I don't see any NSDAP long service devices, but maybe I missed them scrolling back and forth on the huge scans. The rest of your devices look OK.

Claudio I hope you did not "skin" good ribbon bars to show the original backing plates!!-- I already did that (with fake ones too) in the article, so like dissecting frogs in school, nobody else has to! Rick

                  Rick,

Thank you very much for your most appreciated input. To tell you the truth my brother Marco is more a ribbon freak. He already has "skinned" ribbon bars, but don't worry, just the fake ones... and of there are lots, believe me!!!

The NSDAP look quite good to me. I am showing them to you better and also the obverse.

Your comments are most welcomed. Thank you for your patience!

                  Ciao,

                  Claudio

Claudio-- I have never seen a single round wire on the reverse of any devices except for the tiny ones worn with 9mm size lapel ribbons. Every other 15mm/25mm size ribbons device I have ever seen has had two split flat prongs. A single prong on back like this would have to be bent into a "Z" shape or else the device would just slide out away from the single prong direction....

The mini NSDAP is something unknown to me--that is a very heavy reverse--maybe meant for a stickpin? Rick

                      Rick,

I do agree with you. These two NSDAP-DA devices were very likely used as lapel devices to be worn on civilian cloths.

They came from a very large "bad" (fake) ribbon bar...

                      Ciao,

                      Cladio

                        Interesting

Hi Claudio, thanks for the photos and discussion. Interesting devices, even the fakes as it helps us all to learn to recognize them!
