So the only thing I can think is that the guy that got this medal was in Italian army and was then with the Germans in africa???? What do you guys think????? Matt

Hi Matt,
Anything is possible, but the ribbon appears to have been sewn (maybe it was on a bar) and the device was added after the fact. Maybe it was obtained with some other Italian medals and the device was loose and was added by a person who thought it should go on there. I mean anything is possible. My guess is that it was added post-war.

I once had an Eastern Front Medal with an Edelweiss cap device attached to the ribbon. Did that mean the guy was a Gebirgsjaeger? Maybe or maybe it was pinned on there by someone else who thought it was cool.

You just don't know. What counts is that the campaign medal is good.

This sword (gladio) was also used for the Italian valore cross mod. 22/41/42. Maybe the owner was awarded with this bravery cross and attached later the sword (reason why?) on the ribbon of this medal.
