    Demjansk Unit

I recieved the following e-mail and would like to post it for discussion,

"I was reading your article on Demjansk and I have a query. You stated that it was the 12, 30, 32, 223, 290 that were in action there. I can not as yet find any reference to the 223 being there however the 123 ID was.

My Father was in Demjansk with the 123.ID. Rauch was his commander.

My Farther's first unit was the 8.Prussian Infanterie regiment and knew General von Brockdorff- Ahlefeldt ( I think his name is spelled in correctly in your article) and Blumentritt.

Anyways a very interesting article. Please let me know if that should be 123 or 223."

I looked through some reference, and Ailsby says in "Combat Badges" that the 223 ID was there, can anyone confirm/deny that?

I admit that have not looked into it any more that (yet), but now I would like to get a complete and accurate list of units that participated in the pocket. I thought I would go the easy way, and see if someone here had one already .

    Thanks,

    Seba

    demjansk units

    Hello Seba,

I have the list of the following units that where trapped in the DEmjansk Pocket :

    Infanterie Divisions : 12, 30, 32, 58, 81, 122, 123 , 126, 225, 254, 290 and 329

    Waffen SS totenkopf division

    Jäger Divisions 5 and 8

During the battle there where alot more units flewn in, etc ... so the above is not a complete list .

So the person who interpelled you regarding the 223 is kinda right +> this unit was not trapped there and the 123 was certainy in the pocket.

THe above given info comes out of the book " Demjansk - Der Kessel im Eis " written by FRanz. Kurowski +> page 23

Aside from smaller units without their Stab, the map below shows the general picture.

        Demjansk

        Dear Akira !

May you post or send close up's of these maps of Demjansk area ? I spent a lot of time in Demjansk researching the pocket and areas around (Ramushevo, Staraja Russa, Pola, Parfino, Novaja Derenja, Kraseja, Vasiljevschina, Jamnik, Luzhno, Zaluchje, Shelgunovo and many other places). Such maps may help me in my research !

        Regards,
        Alex
