    Question on this case

I have just recently scored a 25 Year Faithful Service Award but the case that it is in does not seem correct. Can someone properly identify what medal would have originally resided within this case? Much thanks.

This is an LDO case with the marking L/55 on the reverse of the box.

            Hello Dan,

This style of case is perfectly fine for a commercial production/private purchase example of the 25-Year Faithful Service Decoration. In Political and Civil Awards of the Third Reich, Angolia shows an identical example on page number 143. It's a nice case and medal that belong together, in my opinion.

            Best regards,
            Tom

              Tom,

Thank you for your prompt response. I guess I was skeptical as the Long Service awards I have come in the red rectangular case. This is a first for me seeing this award in this case. Should this piece be marked with L/55 (as this case shows) because I could not find?

                Hello Dan,
I wouldn't expect to find the medal maker marked on the suspension ring. In fact, I would be shocked if it was marked. I have only ever seen one Faithful Service Decoration maker marked, and that was on a 40-Year Cross marked '1' to Deschler of Munich. I'm sure that most of these crosses were awarded in the red boxes that you mentioned. However, if a recipient wanted to then purchase another example or replacement piece it would probably come in the box like you show.

                Best regards,
                Tom

Personally, I think you have a case for an EK2 ... which would mean it's alot more vaulable than the Faithful Service Cross by far.

Thanks Darrell for the info. Would the EK2 be marked as such (L/55)? Maybe I can find one with this maker mark.

I'm sure they do, some of the other members should have examples. I would imagine they are not common marked L/55. I would think probably the "100" mark on the ring is much more common for this maker of EK2's.
