hmmm... I dont know if these stripes arent too wide on this bar to be romanian crusade -also - were there a swords for it ?? - I thought only bars with names of battles ?

I do not think Romania Medaille zur Erinnerung an den Kreuzzug gegen den Kommunismus had any swords either.

My guess would be Anhalt Hausorden Albrechts des Bären - Ritterkreuz 1. u. 2. Klasse mit Schwerter

hmm.. ribbon looks a like kinda.. but - this Anhalt Hausorden Albrechts des Bären is a VERY high decoration and seems it was awarded only till 1918 ?!

Michael,

You are propably right, I have no knowledge about the criteria for most of the pre 33 awards, I will hopefully learn in the future. Could it then be a Legion Condor where the colours play us a trick? If we look at the WB it looks like a early one to me and I think it might even be one without swastika but it is hard to tell from the picture.

Just speculating a friday night.

he is wearing what appears to be a First World War wound badge,and to me the ribbon looks like a hindy cross with swords. my grandfather brought one home, i apologize in advance for the bad pic. to my eyes i see a simularity

Jono - thats exactly my first thought - this bar looks soo much like sudetenland - so what is the story about these swords ?? - maybe sudetenland bar fell off the bar - and guy replaced it with KVK swords so it wont look like crap ??

I'm actually quite sure thats what it is. If anyone has a copy of Robin Lumsden's "Medals and Orders of Hitler's Germany" on page 147 there is a picture of an oberfeldwebel that has what appears to be the exact same thing on his ribbon bar. It doesn't have swords and i'm pretty sure its a sudatenland ribbon.

I have never seen a Sudet with swords, but I do not claim to have seen it all, on the contrary. I will not be convinced until I see other Sudets with ribbons. I agree that the colouring looks right but the swords.....
