Have you ever seen a Ribbon done like this???

    Hello!
I have had this Russian Front medal for awhile but I am just curious, why was the ribbon sewn like this? I am guessing he did it to stop it from fraying, or he did it for presentation or something?
    What is your opinion?
    Thanks a lot!!!

Hi Tyler, from the looks of It, It would seem that the original owner has done a bit of 'do it yourself' medalbar work on this piece and has put the medal the wrong way round on the ribbon, perhaps so that he could wear it post war... These diy examples are not uncommon and I have posted another example of this type of craftsmanship...

        Hello John!
Do you mean he actually meant for this to be a medal bar? Neat!
But How would the medal bar actually look? Would it be Court Mounted or would it be a make shift bar like yours (BTW That's a Cool Example of a medal bar!!! I only wish it had the Memel Medal n it )
        Thanks a lot!!!

Hi T, There was probably a safety pin through the side you show to attach the medal to the wearers jacket.. I'm just speculating, why not post the other side, Is the ribbon overlapped to make It look like a single medalbar? If so, then the medal Is back to front.

          BTW....Memel Medal..
          Warmest Regards ... John

Ah yes, that's the way the medal would have been seen, with the reverse of the medal showing.. Either a deliberate mistake or just the makers lack of knowledge of regulations.. Either way, something a little different ... Well done...
              Warmest Regards ... John

As you said in one of your posts, I think this might have been post war, but either way, I like it!
                Thanks Again!

I dont think it was ever mounting on anything.

Looks like somebody was trying to approximate a parade mount for display purposes. Could have been a collector, or it could have been some kid that got the medal from a vet after the war had his mom sew it up for him.

How often do you see color matched thread, except in field grey? Besides that, the picture of the front of the ribbon (but reverse of the medal) shows that it looks folded like in the typical fashion, until someone spayed it out.

I dont know, just something to think about.
