Thanks Adolph & Joe for the great pictures! Hard to believe Egana would have so many different dies for this one medal...

It really does not surprise me. Just look at the Germans. Junckers used three different dies for most of their Luftwaffe badges. Here is another one from an earlier referenced thread with no "balloon" This one belongs to "mmiller". Hope he doesn't mind me posting this.

        Yeah, thanks Joe & Adolph.
Joe, those medal bars are superb, one day i hope to own some the same, i can see they are 100% textbook pre-1945 manufacture which makes this whole question even more interesting.
So far it seems that the one with the "Balloon" is the hardest to find, but as Scott pointed out, why would Egana have so many different dies at the same time?

I am sure you will find some nice ones to add to your collection. Just be patient. As for the different dies, '38 -'45 is a long time to manufacture these medals. Possibly when a die wore out, they made slight changes in the new set.

I hope to afford one as well! I did see one on Weitze's site once but just couldn't pay the price he was asking but someone else could
You are right 1938 - 45 is a long time & would need a new die at some point, this is the way i am starting to see it. The one thing i have noticed is that in 5 months of looking i can't find another medal with the balloon on Because it is so much harder to find i want one even more
Gonna take some pictures of mine now, just getting my son off to sleep.

Wouldn't the die period be 1938 to sometime in the mid/late 1970s? I'm up to 11 different die strikes now . I'll put them all up here later this evening...

Hope this doesn't make another one Scott
I have heard before that they were making them up to the 70's.
But here's my only Spanish Civil War medal on a TR medal bar.
