Either way, unless my grandfather partook in some operations or actions of Pz.Abt.40. z.b.V. currently not mentioned by the scarce online sources (during the given time frame for the Ost Medallie), he probably didn't recieve the award in question...

Just before Christmas I ordered the book Panzer in Finland - Wehrmachtin panssarit Suomessa 1941-1944 by Kari Kuusela; one o fthe few books I know of that outlines this particular unit. I recieved the book just after the Christmas Holidays. Unfortunately Pz.Abt.40. were stationed in Oulo during the time outlined for recipients of the award. So I guess that puts him out of the race for the medal in question.
