    Memelland - fake or real?

    I have had this medal for some time now and after seeing another being posted that looks just like mine, i tried to look it up here on the board after i recieved a pm, but either the topic mentioned to me disappeared or i just can't find it.

    So i decided to start my first topic here on the wehrmachtforum, in the hope someone can help me out.

    pics:

    any help would be much appreciated, i always thought that memellands only came with another "g" in "erinnerunG" so i always held it for a copy.

    There are very convincing reproductions of this medal. I must say that all the three medals of the flowerwar that I have in my collection, have a littlebit more detail. More crispy. By al the three their are the same characteristics on the faces from the two persons holding the flag.

    I have my doubts about the originality of this piece, but a second opinion will be helpfull on this one.

      Like Theo mentioned ... 10 people have 10 different opinions about these. Very hard to get a concensous. However, that being said, this is the type that has it's naysayers. Many like the type with the slanted "G" and the smaller "m" on the reverse.

        yes i am one of those people who like that slanted G also much more, and untill yesterday i believed my medal to be fake (i still do actually), on other discussion boards medals like mine are called fake, but i was very surprised to find here on the forum ( the forum i see as THE place with experts) people who think medals like this one to be real, so i thought id open a thread and get some responses ;-)

        the thing is i got mine together with some other (old) things and it looks as you can see old and as if it has seen some action, so i was wondering...

          I was told that on the Sudetenland and the Austrian medals the podium outlines should not touch the edge of the medal. If they do then it is a reproduction, i do not know how much truth is in this statement, but it is one i always remembered..

                Chris, The one you show has definiteley a characteristic on the faces that I mean. I have, like I mentioned before, the 3 different medals: An unknow maker, a Deschler and an Alois Rettenmeyer (marked 16 on the ring). The have all one thing the same: Their noses seems to be hit by Mike Tyson himself! What I try to say; their are varieties in their sharpness but they are all very pronounced in this specific erea instead off the (pressumed) fakes. It just one detail that I discovered by study from large pictures of this medals

                regards, Theo

                  Is it me or do the letters (in the first one pictured) seem to be unevenly spaced and some don't seem to be on a straight line? Just something I noticed in comparison with Chris' medal.

                      The examples presented for George Stimson are correct. I did not know the reference of the 3 types cited for Theo:

                      - An unknow maker;
                      - Deschler;
                      - Alois Rettenmeyer (marked 16 on the ring).

                      The example given for Georg would be a Deschler or unknow to maker?

                      This is the type more found and the had one as original. The example presented for Chris still generates some quarrel, even so I believes that it is original.

                      Regards,

                      Schmidt

                        The reply of the podium/stage was a good tip, guess im going for another soon since this topic got me into this medal again and now i want an original ;-)

                            Same opinion here, one I would not like to own.
