Ribbon Bars - SOS Report

Rick Lundstrom has been asking for reports from the Show of Shows in Louisville. I got home last night and here are two ribbon bars I picked up there. These came from George Petersen who, as always, had an incredible collection of material for sale ... once he broke it all out of the boxes. It went very quickly.

Another view of the ribbon bars. These are not particularly noteworthy but I like them, nonetheless. You really feel a part of history with these things --- and I understand why you ribbon bar guys love them so much.

Oooo - Rick will tell you the 3rd and 4th bars on the group of 5 are mounted in the wrong order (1st October 1938 followed by 13 March 1938!).

Nice to see the Spanish ribbon on the end - does anyone know the criteria for getting it with swords rather than without?

From what I have seen of various ribbon bar posts, it seems half of the Third Reich didn't know what order to put these things on there.

Yup, James is right about the two Annexation medals.

Actually, swords were not needed on the Spanish Civil War Campaign Medal, since the ribbon designs were different. Black edges, as here, were for frontline combatants. Seems the German recipients in 9 out of 10 cases just decided they wanted swords on there.

No sign of swords on the KVK lower bar? Odd, but not unheard of to leave them off.

I'd ever so gently fix that top bar. It would be calling me in the middle of the night. Of course the damned little tabs often snap off, but still. Such a gorgeous bar, and it's "Ugly!"

Despite everything that is going on in the economy, unemployment, layoffs, and the industry I am in being in the crapper, prices never seem to stop going up. Everything was more (and sometimes incredibly so) expensive.

Of course, with our overseas friends, it is hardly helping us that the US dollar is so weak against the Euro --- which is also reflected in the prices they are asking here --- but there seems to be no end to it.

Will it slow or turn around? I doubt it. The demand is growing, thanks to the internet --- and SOS was also quite crowded yesterday. Hundreds of people there. I am always amazed at this.

On that little pile of foo-foo that I showed you all in "Die Kneipe", I blew nearly $1,000!

Hmmm, I am never too sure about changing the order which the ribbons were originally put. I can understand why you would do this, but if in the original order, I would not change it.
