No, nobody died. It is an agricultural/political plaque, probably had been attached to a "Bauernhof" (kind of farm).

In German it rhymes and is more nice, but translates freely into something like this:

The heritage of the fathers, we gave it all,
for protection of the homeland, for Germany´s defense,
On this very soil with firm power (effort)
the farmer creates the seeds for a new race.

      1936

        Thanks Frank ...! thanks

I found this from a veteran family.
        ... Now, I truely believe
the WWII G.I just sent back whatever items they saw...
(regardless of size and weight... as long as it looked cute)

        regards

I've never seen one, but I believe Frank is right, and this was a special plaque for an "Erbgut," a "hereditary estate" given protected status by "entail" with extra legal privileges as long as it remained in hereditary possession of the same family. This did NOT involve being members of the nobility.

I went to college with a German girl whose non-von family had been in unbroken possession of her family's farm since the 1200s-- THAT was an "Erbhof."

I´ve never seen that either and it looks not weathered, rotten, etc. at all.

But whatever it is and whoever made it whenever, at least it is proper German this time!

              Frank,

It is more sense for ' money minded people' to rather use his/her time & money to
produce more lucrative repro medals, iron cross, badges (with 50lb of iron and that is a lot of steels/irons! not to mention, the cost of molding or at least, at least....recreate some Heer / luftwaffe / SS or hitler's Generals plaque and busts or many many thin sheets of road signs or SS vehicles license plates.

The rust is at the back of the plaque though. I had cleaned it up
by using rust remover gel from Home-Depot.

p/s: This plaque is so heavy and strong and I believe, it can easily deflect any incoming bullets/projectile. Meanwhile, I cansee the trace
of round 'bolts' at the 4 corners of the plaque.

              regards
              kenneth
