A very nice portrait! Is that an EK1 1914 or 1939?

Beacuse he has no Wehrmacht long service awards, I can say he was a Major der Reserve. I don't turn up anyone with that name as a pre-WW1 reserve officer, so chances are he was a WW1 Lt dR--and quite unusual for such a reservist to make Major in WW2 unless he saw a LOT of fighting to end up so highly promoted. Since there was no one who had been a regular Imperial officer during WW1, he was also not a Major zV.

      Rick:

This Major is wearing an 39 EK 1.

Interesting also is the studio stamp on the lower left hand corner, C. Wöltje.

I have two protraits, Guessner 's from 1943 and another one to a Transport Sonderfuehrer in 1945 from this studio. Underneath the studio name is the year stamp (ie. 1943, 1945). Ever seen anything like that?

        Hello,

Why he is wearing both the EKII ribbon from the buttonhole and a ribbon bar with the same award?

        Merry Christmas to everyone.

Wear of the original 1914 EK2 ribbon on a ribbon bar and the full sized 1939 EK2 Spange from the buttonhole ribbon was CORRECT per regulations. To see BOTH being worn together--incorrectly-- see Erich's "Unknowns" thread.

A mini Spange could be worn on the ribbon bar, but only ONE Spange was to be worn, so wearing it there in tiny form meant the bolder buttonhole wear was not allowed.
