    eagele order 2nd class?

I have a german medal and was told it was a eagle order 2 nd class. The medal has 4 white enamel blades like an iron cross however the blades have a slight inverted v-shape, there are eagles sitting on a swastika between each blade and there are two swords that criss cross at the middle. The medal comes in a red case with a eagle sitting on swastika and its colored gold. THe inside of the box has a black felt on the base and the top of the lid cover is white satin with this printed "Deuischer Adlerorden II Stute mit Schwertern" (I can't be sure if I have all the letters correct its had to make out all of them).

I don't want to sell it and I've been told its fairly rare???, but nobody seems to want to give me a value on this medal. I would appreciate any help I could get on the value of this medal. And to what degree of rarity it is, compared to other medals by the german army.

    Thanks Okha

Is there a way to post pictures as an attachment to this forum?

    ORDER OF THE GERMAN EAGLE

The Order of the german eagle is not a German Army award. It was a meriterious civil award of the German Government. The 1937/39 2nd Class and the 1943 4th class designs were identical.
The value of a cased example in mint condition ranges from $1250.00 to $1500.00 on the average. The Ruptured Duck, Bill Shae, has one for sale for $1,495.00 at this time. Here is his example.

      eagle order

WC Stump, thanks for your quick and very well informed reply, I did not know it was a civil award. I've very much also appreciate you informing me of its value. Thanks again!

P.S. Is this a award somewhat rare or fairly common?

        Kaz,

The Eagle Order series, which extended to 5 classes by 1943 and a silver and bronze medal - is in my view- beautiful and one of my favourites. It was generally awarded to non-Germans who performed a meritorious deed/s to benefit Germany. Examples with and without the addition of swords can be found but apart from the two medals and maybe the 4 and 5 Class Cross they are very rare and very expensive. For example a Bronze medal will cost £130, a Silver Medal £300. 5 Class maybe £450 and example with swords considerabley more.

Fakes abound so be careful when buying!!

The orders of the German Eagle are beautiful decorations, well made and are not a common item on the market today. The higher classes are very expensive and one sure can't classify them as common awards. They have a high collector value and are rather expensive. While not as rare as some awards, their high quality, (the workmanship in fine silver and enamel ) would rank them in the rarer category than common combat awards.

Dan thanks for the reply, if I understand this right the 2nd class silver would be 300 (franks???). I purchased the medal from a U.S. veteran who told me he got it out of some goverment building in Germany 1/2 days prior to the end of the war, he said they were checking out a building and were going up the upper floors and found it in a desK. If you like I could send you some pictures of it if you give me your email address. Thanks Okha
