18 year Long Service Medal for review

Hey Guys,

Here is another Wehrmacht Long Service Medal - this time an 18-year cross. I bought it from a London dealer who it turns out sold me a few fakes, so I would welcome opinions on this one.

Thanks Ian, I see what you mean. This dealer sold me loads of fakes, he's certainly lost my business now.

if that deal sold you a fake, I would stop being a fan same moment. Besides of details I dont like the silver finish of this one. My examples look different but I am not an expert on this.

Thanks Yubari, I bought this a very long time ago when I was a student from Gordons Medals Ltd, then a big dealer in London (now no longer trading). He had an impressive showroom and I thought he was reputable at the time!

I dont feel competent enough to shoot your cross down but I find the lack of distinctive pebbling (behind the eagle) and the ruff detail of the eagle and cross edges disturbing to say the least. Like the 25 year cross there are many variations of this piece but this isnt one I'd be comfortable with. Attached are 2 from my stuff to compare: no guaranty they are original but I have seen the same posted before

Thanks Jean Claude and Stan - I think you are right! Looking with a lens at the edges, I think I can see a casting seam. Can't believe I had this for decades and have never noticed this. Thanks for your comments. My trust in dealers is long gone.
