    Mussert Medal

    Hi all,

It appears I am about to "inherit" one of these medals from a bunch of medals my Uncle "acquired" while overseas 1943-45. My mother described it over the phone tonight (they don't have email or scanners etc. ), I did a search on Mussert and came up with mostly the Mussert Cross. However, this one is exactly what she described.

Can anyone tell me what this was awarded for and how rare they are? Thanks.

If my dutch is still ok, This is a christmas-march-medal for the W.A. in 1941( Dutch SA) . "Hou Zee" is a far as J know the dutch "Sieg Heil".

About rarity: Scarce. but not expensive. Should not exceed the price on a EK II.

    Regards Jens

Hi Darrel, Jens has summed it up corrrectly for you. I have the 1940 version of this medal in my collection, like yours mine came via a Canadian soldier. It is made of brass in my case.

      Cheers, Ade.

Thanks guys. Amazing I could find it based on information I received. Mother knows NOTHING about medals There is supposed to be an Afrika Medal and a few other badges and such. It'll be interesting to see what's in the bag

              Adrian,

Interesting to note that yours is dated 1940, the other 1941, different ribbon as well. I wonder if this was some annual thing?

                Hi Darrel,

taken from vol 2 0f littlejohn and dodkins book ( condensed)
christmas marches held from 1933-1936, a medal was issued annually. In 1937 the medal was cross shaped (like a war merit cross) and of different design the basic medal. Medals were issued in dk. bronze (for the first issues) to copper guilt (up to 1940) then in zinc.
the ribbon was coloured black left and red right (though mine has faded to more of an orange shade)
There are approx 5 other types of these medals but i feel they fall out of the scope of this thread.
                Hope this is of help
                Ashley

Hi Rolf, it is indeed similar. It is how I recieved it. The colour is not a faded red but is "Salmon pink" on both sides. The edge is not solid white, but just has a little fleck of white now and again.

                      Cheers, Ade.

                        To all,

Nice medals you've got. The given information is correct. The W.A. stands for Weer Afdeeling (like the German S.A., but less smaller). And due to the fact that the Dutch Goverment forbit wearing uniforms (before WW II), the W.A. held marches of long distance. There are lot of differance on these medals.

By the way, If some one wants too sell there medal, please let me know.

                        Greetings,

                        Marcel

                          Hi all,

like Ade`s medal mine has the same style and colour ribbon, i know what is written in the book, but maybe it is not 100% correct (as it is an earlyish piece of reference material ?????)

I think the ribbons didn't always have the same colour. Here are my two medals (one for 1935 and one for 1941):

                              1941

The 1941 version. Nive detail is the two on the ribbon.
