    Anyone seen ribbon bars like this?

    Hello all

    Has anyone seen ribbon bars like this before?

    I would imagine they are quite rare for soldiers to go on in the Bundeswehr, although they do look much more practical than wearing a chest full of medals.

    More practical, maybe, but less impressive!

      I saw similar bars on WWII veterans who were on active duty in the Bundeswehr in the early 1970s when I was stationed in Germany.

        model 1957 ribbon bars

        Hello,

        Thanks for showing this one Dez, you have a fine example of a model 57 ribbon bar much worn by the German WWII vets. who did there service with the Bundeswehr between the late 50 's and the early 80's ( only a rough estimation )

        Your person did earn the following awards :

        * Knights Cross
        * German cross in Gold
        * Iron cross 1 e class
        * Iron cross 2 nd. class
        * CCC in silver
        * wound badge in silver
        * Infantery assault badge in silver
        * " Kreta " cufftitle
        * Kuban ? shield
        * long service award ( 4 years ? )

        well it might be a tracable one and I would guess that you look after Gebirgsjager KC holders .

        Cordial Greetings,

          Ayuh, that's certainly the most impressive Bundeswehr "rack" I've ever seen-- check out the few "one row-ers" in the last section of The Ribbon Bar article shown as examples of post-WW2 bars.

            That bar should have some provenance, you would think. How many RK/DK winners who were in Crete did active post war service?

            was there a post war service award, other than the redone III Reich one? Didnt these guys get any credit for time served after the war?

            Accidentally offending people on the internet since 1997

              Long, long years of nothing, languishing overaged in ranks they held during the war already for most of those guys. NOT having all the "new" stuff (1970s on?...) should indicate a fairly "old" 1960s group.

              I'd agree with Stijn-- from this combo, looks like a Gebirgsjáger type, at least a Hauptmann during the war (had 4 years before 1940, maybe as many as 11 years in by then), possibly a Major by war's end. Can't have been many of those as possibles-- anybody got that series where Knight's Cross holders are listed by their branch of service?

                    Impressive bar!

                    There is a book about knights cross winners in the Bundeswehr published in Germany. So this guy should be traceable.

                    Best regards

                      Bundeswehr Bar

                      Hello,

                      I just had a quick look in the named book " Die Ritterkreuztrager in der BUndeswehr " and have found that only 385 Heer soldiers ( KC holders ) where in active service after the war again + 54 who took part in trainings.

                      So now I wil try and find the closest matching persons .

                      Cordial Greetings,

                        Can't be many with this combo of medals.

                          Cross-referencing a list of Gebirgsjäger Ritterkreuzträger with a list of Bundeswehr RK-Träger and eliminating those unlikely ones (ones who had Ehrenblattspangen too, ones with Gold or Bronze Wound Badges or Nahkampfspangen, etc.) leaves the following possibilities:

                          Oberst Richard Ernst

                          RK, 20.10.1944, as Oberstleutnant and commander of GebJägRgt 100.

                          Oberst Helmut Hermann

                          RK, 18.12.1944, as Hauptmann and commander of I./GebJägRgt 100.

                          Oberst Walter Kopp

                          RK, 06.11.1942, as Hauptmann and commander of I./GebJägRgt 99.

                          Oberst Karl Pabst

                          RK, 04.11.1943, as Hauptmann and commander of III./GebArtRgt 112.

                          I don't feel strongly about any of these. The book, Die Ritterkreuzträger in der Bundeswehr, ususally identifies DKs as well, and none of these are listed as having one. Perhaps our guy wasn't a Gebirgsjäger, or wasn't with a Gebirgsjäger unit when he got his RK, so he's not on the list.

                          Maybe someone else has more information on these Gebirgsjäger RK winners?

                          Dave
