Honor Wall Plaque Question

Hello,

Not sure where to post this question. I have this wall plaque that my Father bought at a show back in the 80s and I have seen a few others like it online. I would like to know if anyone knows what they were presented for and any opinions on if this is original or not. It came mounted on the wooden board with no hanger. I always liked it whether it is original or not. Just curious if there is any info out there.

It is metal that appears to be cast and this is tacked onto the wood.
