    Westwall medal

    Hello Collectors,

I had a collector casting some doubt about this Westwall medal. IMO a 100% fine latewar zink example, but it always good to have some more opinions on it,

    Thanks for your opinions,

    Chris

There are casting pits and a mould crack line.

It is an original 100% Deumer! Exactly like my version and not a rubber mould fake !

I was the one who expressed my concerns to Chris about this example. I do appreciate him posting it up for review. It is not a medal that I am comfortable with due to the inconsistencies indicated by Ian. Nor do I care for the example shown by Chay for the same reasons. We all collect what we are comfortable with from the knowledge gained on this forum and the handling of known originals as well as fake examples. Personably I don't believe in the two shown examples in this thread.

Maybe you can explain how Deumer faked these medals so everyone reading can understand?

              Kind regards Chay

                Chay,
Admittedly I do not collect Westwalls and therefore I am unaware of individual makers characteristics. So that I understand what you are saying is that Deumer examples all demonstrate the diagonal line across the obverse, pitting on obverse and reverse, and generally overall soft details?

The two examples in this thread have an unusual finish and they match in that they both have little craters etc the die had an issue but Deumer deemed it ok. There would be no reason to finish them and add them to souvenir boards which have perfect medals and badges. I managed to get this board from the family of a ww2 veteran and it was sold to him his name is on the accompanying envelope that includes a list of the awards.
That is the west wall I photographed
                  Kind regards Chay

                    Chay,
I appreciate your explanation and insight concerning these souvenir boards. So the examples found on these boards were factory rejects?

I don’t see any reason for factory rejects, the quality is there on the souvenir board perfect metal types with aluminium, polishing, magnetic flawless wound badge etc etc
Oh the zinc was only a stopgap

                      Kind regards Chay

                        Chay.
You say the "quality is there". So I have to assume that Duemer produced incredibly crappy Westwall Medals. Other than pitting the OPs medal shows other faults that yours does not. Anyway, I think we've exhausted this conversation and I appreciate your point of view.

                          Chet,
Yes indeed a thought imagine February 1945 and your west wall medal arrives in the post and you are not happy with the finish you could write a letter to the quality control people complaining hahah just kidding.

                          Kind regards Chay

Could we have a nice clear picture of the one on the board as it doesn't look in the fuzziness to be the same as the other two. Not saying that they aren't, it's just that we can't tell. I'm still with Ian and Chet, but am happy to be convinced.
