Fallschirmjager Helmet

Looking for help identifying the type of camo on this helmet and any other information folks might have. The photos should tell most of the tale. There is only one original screw/bolt holding the liner and chinstrap on. The chinstrap has one cut, about an inch and a half from the snap. The bullet hole in the back also caused some damage to the liner and clearly the soldiers head as there is still a hair or two on the leather stuck on something crusty (brain matter/blood?). I believe it has ckl68 and 40 stamped near the edge of the back of the helmet, but they are hard to read. Any thoughts or comments are welcome.

Helmet compinets (shell, liner and chinstrap remnants) are authentic. The only thing that gives me pause is the fact that the camo appears to be applied to the shell when the bolts were off. Can you post close-ups of the shell's bolt hole areas?

Walter, I have seen several slotted steel bolt camos which were camoed after the bolts and liner assembly were removed, and then reassembled afterwards. One I have with camo and chicken wire. Camo and wire applied after disassembly and then reassembled. Have seen that on other chicken wire helmets, and net helmets as well. Disassembled, wire/net added, then liner added to secure the covering. Makes sense.

Have not encountered that on spanner bolt helmets, for obvious reasons.

I will, but this came back from Germany 75 years ago and has been in storage since (I believe). I have had it for 25 years. But I said that about my Waffen SS smock and was told it was a 10 year old repro. But the original smock is on its way back to me I believe, as it was switched accidentally by my bro. We shall see.

Or perhaps that is not the original bolt. Agree with Willi that sometimes bolts were removed, especially to add wire or fabric.

Still, camo'ed bolts are just plain cool, and inspirational.

Sure, camoed bolts put helmets to another stage . Sad this helmet was deassembled later even with these bolts but I see no evidence of issues with camo, so I think all original here and like this camo .

There is definitely texture in the camo. It does not appear to be sand. It looks like the green is under the grey and sort of mixed in.
