I just got back from the Flonheim Militaria Borse and one of my pick ups was a set of FJ snaps of a group of Fallschirmjaeger wearing splinter and grey green jump smocks with a assortment of gear elbow pads, knee pads and something I've never seen before shoulder pads in between the parachute harness which I gather was used to soften the shock of parachute opening when jumping.

I also picked up this Death Card of a FJ who had fought in Africa and was killed in action in Russia in 1943.

Awesome pictures Bill ! Yip never seen shoulder pads before. Maybe some sort of experiment they were trying out on this particular jump.

                          Hi Bill,
Thanks for the pictures. I recall having seen more pictures showing FJs with those kind of shoulders protections. If I'm not mistaken the "Lehr" unit trained with them while being stationed in the south of France in 1943, before moving to Italy.
                          Best regards. Óscar

                            Shaun...Thanks

Óscar....Thank you for the information I had never seen that type of padding used and since you mentioned Italy...there were two other snaps with this small grouping. FJ in tropical uniforms prior to going to Italy and then as it appears they are in Italy.

There is foto of those pads in wear in the FJ-edition (by Chris Mason) of the "Soldat"-books.
