They could be early postwar made from wartime parts. Many companies tried to produced items to keep their businesses running during those bad times.

Nonetheless, they are not FJ issue knee pads.

Why not, it's possible, but in this case it would be the post-war interest to do knee pads, because they are knee pads, military or not, so sophisticated and to sell to whom ?

I am curious as to when FJ knee pads were maker marked with such a tag and maker? I have only seen one early pair which were ink stamped with the maker "Heisler". The rest have all been RBNred.

The fabric used on these are consistent with the fabric we see in 1944. Not the early cotton twill of the early ones.

The odd straps, the mixture of fabrics, and colors point to being made from leftover parts.

Workmen sometimes wear knee pads. Again, we don't know for sure. But, with textbook FJ knee pads not selling well anymore, why mess with something odd?

Yes the material is not early, and they are assembled with different types of fabrics found in mid-war. Often the straps are pieces of braces and for markings, besides the RbNr sometimes there is only the size as inscription (as on the elbow pads) or nothing at all.
As you say the classic kneepads are struggling to sell, this is perhaps the reason why this pair is a custom made personal order !?
