No, they were worn, but were not common.

      Hi,

IMO no FJ TP trousers worn in Normandy. The best are jump trousers, LW M40, LW M43 and LW GJ trousers.

I reviewed that footage several times. IMO, that short 4 second clip was spliced into the film. It doesn't fit in with the sequence of the rest of the film. He appears to be throwing a smoke grenade during training. Even the terrain didn't fit right, and I can't figure out what tunic he is wearing.

Nonetheless, even though we can say tropical uniforms were not authorized for wear during the Normandy campaign, that doesn't mean you might not encounter the exception.

When the 11th Flieger Korps was sent to Southern France (primarily the 1st and 2nd FJDs) as a quick reaction force for Italy and the Med, they certainly had tropical uniforms issued for that deployment. You can see a number of pictures (in that great French publication) where troops in training were wearing a mix of tropical and continental uniforms.

Those forces were no longer present in France in 1944, with the exception of FJR7 at Brest, and FJR6 in Normandy. Have never seen a photo of FJR6 in tropicals.

That was my initial reaction as well Willi when I saw it, but it didn't make sense to me as to why they would splice a .02 second clip in when there was ample actual battle footage to get the message across.

Regardless, I agree with you that although not authorized, there was the opportunity and probability that a few Fj did wear tropical trousers there.

Those may as well be the off-white pants of the drill/work uniform.....
