Soldbuch Oberfeldwebel Fallschirm Granatwerfer Lehr Bataillon

    Hello Fallschirmjäger Experts,

I have some questions on this Soldbuch of a Oberfeldwebel. He joined the Fallschirmjäger in March 1944. He was trained at several Fallschirmjäger Granatwerfer Lehr Bataillons but I can not make out which ones they were.

He was awarded with the EK2 in November 1944. Which Bataillon did he served with at that time, where did he see action.

He was wounded on April 2nd 1945 and died in a hospital in Bad Bentheim, just a few Kilometers away from the Dutch boarder.

    Thank you very much.

Looks like the Fallschirmjäger-Granatwerfer-Lehr-Bataillon was moved to west at one point. It formed the Fallschirm-Granatwerfer-Bataillon 20 a few days after his death, while one company was moved to the 20. Fallschirmjäger-Division.

        http://www.feldgrau.com/FsGranat.htm

This Wikipedia entry mentions that the Lehr-Bataillon was moved to Hamminkeln near the Dutch border for Operation Plunder.

Therefore it is possible that he was awarded his EKII in the Nijmegen-Arnhem area.

Yes, it is. He was active in Spain, then he had some quiet years but the end was bitter as for so much other men.

Very interesting Soldbuch. Received his jump badge in October of '44. Pretty late.

Date badge entry in Soldbuch is date metal badge finally reaching unit, not date finishing jump school. Look like parachute school April 1944, still late.
