There were two for sale at Malvern militaria in the Uk two weekends ago. A first pattern for £34995 and a second pattern for £25000, they were, to put it as politely as I can, pieces if sh1t. I couldn't make out if they were ground dug and then someone had added bits to try and cover it up or ........... It defies a description. I just wish that I had had a camara. I can only assume that the seller was insane.

You had to see them to believe it.

Maltese la s are good. You can own up to 10 full autos as long as they are pre 1946. But you can't shoot them. But... you can fly to Italy and use them all you like or go sailing.

That Fj FG42 document is awesome. Ive been searching for any info on the deployment of FG42s especially in Normandy. THANK YOU.

Im very curious to see what the James Julia Type 1 FG42 brings at auction. We have seen a few type 2s come up for sale these last few years and it seems that $200k+ is the new normal. I cant remember what the last Type 1 went for. I believe there are quite a few less type 1s in he NFA registry.(if thats not the case, Id love to be informed)

Maybe its also a biased curiousity. The Fg42 has always been my holy grail of firearms. Heres my Type 1 FG42.

They are the same rifles being resold. Probably the price has risen too high and people cannot justify tying up that much wealth for a long period.

Fj WEAPONRY Normandy

Hi,

This is another POW interrogation report, this time for a 53 man strong motorcycle unit, their amount of automatic weapons is amazing, and I am reading "Pararifles" as being FG42, would this the correct interpretation. ?

This is a very large Kradschutzen Zug, they normally would have had 12 motorcycle combinations rather than 18, but the 6 lMG in a Krad Zug is correct, according to
K.S.T.N. 1112 of 1 Nov 44.

Another amazing doc. It is so interesting to see a real breakdown at the platoon level during those critical days. And I also wouldn't have guessed they would have so many sturmgewehrs at that time. Fascinating stuff.
Also, no sign of g43s in this zug.

The KSTN 1112 is 1943 not 1944.

No G43's and it seems only three rifles (K98 ?), but a lot of Anti-Tank grenade launchers, they seem to be the 2,7 cm Sturmpistole ?

That is a really interesting document re: the PW interrogation. The document author's statement that this PW was "extremely cooperative" is an understatement: the PW was giving up information that (IMO) would clearly result in some of his fellow German soldiers getting wounded or killed. Giving up the ammo dump location; telling the U.S. forces how to improve their attack methods; etc. . . . . . . wow, this guy really seems to have gone out of his way to screw over his fellow soldiers that remained on the front lines.

I wonder what motivated this PW: was he just a scared kid who blabbed way to much, or did he intentionally want to harm/undermine the German forces? Given the information disclosed, it seems like the harm may have been intentional.

The details of the weapons captured are also very interesting, as is the information on lack of ammunition for the German artillery.

Heres some photos that put some context into the above interrogation document.
The first is a well known image of Generalleutnant Richard Schimpf, commander of 3.FJD during the time talking to troops in Normandy, mid June 44. The man sitting on his right is Major Der Reserve Fredrich Alpers, the commander of Regiment 9 June44, the Regiment the above doc discusses.
Schimpf has a brand new FG42 slung and other photographs of this series show other men with FG42s by there side. It fascinating to read the above document and see how integral this weapon was to the structure of the unit. There's very little info on how the FG42 was distributed and this clearly shows that it was more than random one offs. Consider the low number built by then (2000) it gives a new understanding about how it was used.

3.FJD arrived in Normandy June 10 at full strength to defend Saint Lo and was pulled back July 18 after suffering heavy casualties.
