For volume 3 of my book, which also deals with unit insignia, I have unearthed a photo from Russia dated 1943, which shows an officer of the former I./Sturm-Rgt. with a comet on his Einheitsfliegermütze. This seems to show that the comet was worn by ex-Sturm-Rgt. members on other fronts as well.

    Cheers
    Karl

These komets also sometimes can found among positions of I./SturmRgt in Smolensk area( late42/early43) . Friends have some of them .
The komet of the thread looks very good and authentic

Sergey, I knew you had something great to add.

Komets were worn in all theaters where members (or ex ones) of the LL Sturm Rgt were.

Yes, agree, too bad that they are in smal dimensions so not easy to detect them in soil during digging

In my opinion, the "Komet" should be considered a tradition badge of the old Luftlande Sturm-Regiment. Very probably there was an unwritten rule that forbid the wear of the Komet by the recruits, although they were assigned to the FJR12 (aka Sturmregiment). This fact may explain why the pictures of this badge in wear in Italy are so rare.
