Doesn't look factory made. I suspect the 4 snaps on the body (as compared to the 2 on the flap) are to facilitate items of different sizes, and not anything heavy based on the dimensions and construction. IMO.

Why does it not look factory made? I have factory made equipment in my collection that looks a lot more crappy...

Just my opinion Dirk. How many field gear items have a stamp like that on the front of the item that can not be concealed by he flap etc? The gas sheet bag looks better made.

What is it for if you think it is FJ?

Interesting Dirk. We haven't gotten any closer in figuring it out, but seeing a second one requires some more serious thinking.

Nein. Sewing world war two makes rechter Winkel I dont know this English. riveting not on small piece. Wrong way approaching. Not "wanting to be original and think of some way maybe could be. " Better think not original, find evidence to prove not original.

So you really think that there were no straight stiching in WW2? Did you ever had a canteen in your Hand? Or a gas cape bag? Or a bread bag?
And no rivets on "small" pieces? Do a search here in the "equipment section" and you will find rivited bread bags, canteens...

Dirk, could we see some close-ups of the snaps on the second one? They appear to be nickel plated brass Prym snaps.

A collector friend told me that he found many years ago 60 of the same bags in an old cellar here in Germany, with Gasmasks in it! So... maybe "lastditch-Ersatz-Gasmaskbags"?

                          Best regards
