    Hi guys,
Thought I'd show a group I picked up a few years ago indirectly from EQ. It's the group for an early FJ, who saw a ton of action and is featured in EQ's book "Red Shines the Sun" that I'm sure many of you may have in your library.

There's quite a few photos that I decided to post & I apologize for so many.

Would love your thoughts & comments.

The FJ's name is Heinz Nikolas and here is a bit of his history that I received from EQ.

Heinz Nikolas volunteered for the FIK (from JR9) in December of 1937 and completed jump training in March of the next year. Unfortunately he was not given the formal army paratrooper badge document because it was only awarded twice (1.1.37 & 18.12.37). On July 30th Nikolas was made part of the 4th company (4./FJB) under Sgt.Walter HESS. Three months later (OCT 38) he took part in Operation GREEN (the annexation of the Sudetenland) still under Sgt. HESS.

1939 saw the transfer to the Luftwaffe (on 1.1.39), the Prague mission (March) and of course the fighting at Wola Gulowska on 24.9.39.

Nikolas jumped with 8./FJR1 (Sondergruppe PEISER) at Moerdijk, Holland on May 10, 1940 and at Chania a year later (May 20, 1940). He was with 8./FJR3 for most of the war until transferring to 12./FJR3 late in the war.

He was badly wounded at Monte Cassino in 1944. A piece of shrapnel ripped open the bottom of his jaw (he told me that his tongue was hanging out down by his adam's apple through this opening under his jaw.

A very nice, warm and funny guy. He was a butcher later in life and worked at his shop until he was 85 years old !! It was very sad when he passed away last August.

I hope this gives you a little more information regarding Mr.Nikolas, and thanks for letting me rest a little easier knowing the material is in good hands.

Hi Greg, that's a great story and wonderful grouping. I love the Para badge, a true war horse and a million times better than one untouched from the stores IMO.
      Thanks for sharing.
      Cheers - Greg

Thanks Greg! For me, anyway, history is a huge & important part of my collecting. As is often said, too bad our badges/medals can't talked.

Thanks for this nice story. Do you have any more information on this "Sondergruppe Peiser", or do you mean the 1st Zug (Lt. Adolf Peiser) in which Nikolas served as a Gruppenführer ????

              Best regards,

The info on him I received from EQ, who was a friend of his, sorry as I haven't had time to research further (I'm a Luft guy).
                Thanks,

These were the only docs in the group I received. I know that 1 piece was sold off before I picked up the group, not sure what happened to all his other items.
                        Thanks!

Nope as I picked this up a few years ago, still love FJ's as a retired skydive instructor, appreciate all who jump out of a perfectly good aircraft
